In 1519, Hernán Cortés's army, with five hundred infantry and eleven ships, set sail from Cuba, ignoring direct orders with the manifest intention of reaching the heart of the largest empire in the New World. When they finally entered Tenochtitlán, they were received with honors by Moctezuma and his people, who revered them as if they were gods. However, the subsequent kidnapping and removal of Moctezuma, as well as the destruction of the capital, make the conquest of Mexico one of the most captivating and tragic episodes in the history of the world.
