La conjetura de Reiner
XXVI Premio de Novela Ateneo Joven de Sevilla
Santacruz Gómez, Guillem
Reiner has pursued a forbidden knowledge throughout his life: discovering the date of our death. Now, dying and maddened, he summons Reiner he has pursued throughout his life a forbidden knowledge: discovering the date of our death. Now, dying and maddened, he summons one of his former students, Boris Keller, who, using his own memories, must try to reconstruct the mathematical theory of his teacher. History and science are mixed in a novel full of mysticism, war and family trauma and through which Faustian and apocalyptic echoes resonate. Europe is a continent in ruins, very close to destruction, but also the home of humanistic ideals. But what can love and innocence do against violence and horror? The struggle of the characters in Reiner's Conjecture is the struggle against the devil that scientists, philosophers and poets alike have had to face. Europe, old Europe, is the setting for this story in which individual history is mixed with universal history. Because the year a life ends can also be the year an entire civilization collapses and changes forever.
