La casa del río
Richell, Hannah
Margot can't help but remember what happened to her long ago. The smell of cider, of rotting apples, the feel of paper on her face, a hand pressing against her skin, the laughter by the river, the black mud staining her aching body, her bloody hands. Windfalls. And that voice of hers, echoing in her head: "What have you done? What the hell have you done?". Can a past wound that has scarred your whole life ever be healed? The Sorrells have gathered for the middle sister's wedding, announced just a couple of weeks earlier, at Windfalls, their ramshackle Somerset country house. English, with its lush gardens that reach the river. Lucy, her girlfriend, has begged her loved ones to attend, without telling them that she has important news to tell them once they are all together. Her little sister, Margot, who left home after a devastating argument with her mother, reluctantly agrees, even though the family home is a place that only brings her pain. Meanwhile, her older sister, Eve, has swooped in to finalize all the wedding details, anything to distract herself from how her own life is falling apart. Her parents Kit and Ted, artists and long-time divorcees, are reluctantly forced to play the part of cheerful hosts. As the Sorrell family gathers for a week of celebrations and clashes, painful memories of the past relive and their relationships are strained to the point of rupture.
