Marion Shaw grew up in the suburbs, where all she knew was longing and lack. Despite the fact that what she longs for most is to leave the city and all its miseries, she has no hope of escaping until the day she finds a very peculiar advertisement in the newspaper, in which she is looking for a blood maid. Though she knows little about the far north, where nobles live in luxury and drink the blood of those in her service, she decides to try to get the job. Within days, she becomes the new bloodmaid of the infamous House of Hunger. She there she is involved in a world of debauchery, in whose center is the Countess Lisavet, a woman loved and feared in equal parts. And the countess will soon show a special interest in Marion. Lisavet is magnetic, and Marion can't wait to satisfy her new mistress. But when she discovers that the ancient walls of the House of Hunger hide ancient secrets, she Marion finds herself drawn into a fierce and deadly game.
