La casa de las desamparadas

La casa de las desamparadas

Enríquez de Salamanca, Cristina

Valencia 1854: Casta More, the wife of a national deputy, cacique of Almería, is locked up by her husband in the House of the Forsaken in Valencia, run by the unique Mother Micaela, a high-born woman determined to get the women of bad living, teaching them a trade. No one, not even the Breed herself, knows what motives her husband really had for sending her there. Through the narration of life in the house, the protagonist's correspondence with Carolina Coronado and the serialized serial "Azucena" that Casta writes and publishes, the reader will discover her personal tragedy and from this reading a vision as stark as well as intense, of the (effectively helpless) feminine condition of the time.
