La bullanga de Barcelona

La bullanga de Barcelona

25 de juliol de 1835

Roca Vernet, Jordi
Miquel, Núria

On July 25, 1835, a popular revolt took place in Barcelona in which several convents were burned. It began in the bullring of El Torín de la Barceloneta, from where it quickly spread throughout the city. In the days that followed, the riots culminated in the assault and destruction of the first steam-powered factory and the assassination of the military governor. There had already been revolts, but this bullshit -in a context of war against Carlism and profound economic transformation- will make Barcelona the leading city of the liberal revolutionary process in the Spanish monarchy in the next eight years. Other cities will ignite the fabric of the revolution, but no other like Barcelona will be able to bring down governments and shake up the monarchy.
