Kurdistan, argi bat ekialde hurbilean

Kurdistan, argi bat ekialde hurbilean

Urrutikoetxea, Urtzi

The Kurdish people are not small, nor are they marginal. The Kurds are one of the most important peoples of the Middle East, along with the Turks, Arabs and Persians. Kurdistan would be similar to the previous three, looking at the area, the number of inhabitants and the speakers of the language. However, they have not created a state structure -at least not a unified one- and are divided in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria, respectively in the regions called Bakur, Baxur, Rojhelat and Rojava. What has happened in the Middle East in recent years has led us Westerners to pay special attention to the Kurds. Rojava, for example, has become synonymous with utopia. There, over ethnic, religious and political divisions and disagreements, they are promoting radical democracy, municipalism, respect for differences and the empowerment of women. In other words, a kind of oasis in the desert of fundamentalism. This book offers us a journey through the history and current situation of the Kurdish people. It could have been a labyrinthine journey, to be honest, but there is no risk of getting lost, as the driver is Urtzi Urrutikoetxea. Urrutikoetxea knows him very well, first hand, and he does easily what could be difficult.
