Josep Fornas, el solucionador
l'home de Tarradellas a Catalunya
Premi Carles Rahola d'assaig 2022
Esculies, Joan
The politician and publisher Josep Fornas (1924-2021) was a key piece of anti-Francoism and a great conspirator. He traveled to Morocco in search of money to start an insurrection and overthrow Franco. He collaborated with the Catalan State and the Communist Party, served in the Democratic Union and was a deputy for the Republican Left. He was a friend of Montserrat and Abbot Escarré and also an adversary. For fifteen years he was Josep Tarradellas' confidant in the interior. He got him money and credit. I informed him in detail. He connected him with businessmen such as Valls i Taberner or Duran Farell and with the new generation of politicians, such as Jordi Pujol. It was, in short, the antenna in Catalonia for the president in exile, so that nothing would be overlooked. Without this task in the shadows, the subsequent return of Tarradellas could not be understood. Also, throughout his life, as another facet of his political and cultural commitment, Fornas assembled a huge library on the history of Catalonia and founded the publishing house Pòrtic so that the memory of this country would not be lost.
