¡Viva la Revolución!
sobre América Latina
Hobsbawm, E. J.
Since he traveled to Latin America for the first time in 1962, Eric Hobsbawm showed a passionate interest in those lands, "where historical evolution occurred at great speed" and could be observed in the course of a lifetime. Hence, he devoted much of his work to studying some people and some countries that he thought could be the next scene of a revolution. Upon his death in 2012, he commissioned a compilation of these studies, a task that has been entrusted to Professor Bethell, who has brought together here the memories of his travels, studies on the persistence of feudalism, his portraits of the peasants as rebels and as revolutionaries, his vision of the revolutions in Mexico, Cuba and his point of view on the peculiar military revolution in Peru, on the violence in Colombia and on Allende's Chile as hope and tragedy.
