una comèdia profètica

Macaulay, Rose

Published in 1918, republished in 1919 and then forgotten, "And All That. A Prophetic Comedy" is a science fiction classic whose recent revival has been celebrated as a great event. A few years after the Great War, and with the aim that there will never be another like it, the Ministry of Brains classifies citizens into different categories according to their level of intelligence and establishes a rigid system of authorizations to marry and have children. However, the project collides with the resistance of the population and gives rise to paradoxes such as the one experienced by the Ministry official Kitty Grammont and the minister and ideologue of the system, Nicholas Chester, with the press always on the lookout. And all that is a satirical novel that denounces regimes based on social engineering and manipulation of the media from a feminist point of view. The book precedes by fourteen years the famous "Brave New World" (1932), by Aldous Huxley, who, incidentally, visited Rose Macaulay frequently when she wrote "And all that."
