Humanum est
(epigrames de Claudi Valeri)
Pons, Ponç
On a trip to Rome, Claudius Valeri was born, the Ponsian heteronym whose voice reaches us from a very present past and which is expressed in epigrams. An only child, rich by inheritance but without any interest in business, he did not believe in gods or other lives, and his two great passions, poetry and love, made him faithful to many muses. He wrote in an innate, vital way, like someone who breathes, always looking for brevity and concision, and these verses, which he carried in his blood, are the last vestige of his existence, poetic, of course, but still absolutely real.
