The wise words of Pope Saint Paul VI in Evangelii Nuntiandi are often remembered: "contemporary man listens more willingly to those who bear witness than to those who teach", however the famous quote continued: "if they listen to those who teach , it is because they bear witness". The fathers and doctors of the Church were not direct witnesses of Christ and, nevertheless, they were teachers of the time in which they lived and for the future that would come after them. Through their words and writings, they reaffirmed the doctrinal treasure of the Church for all times to come. Thanks to their life testimony, they also shaped the form and how each Christian is called to live the vocation regardless of his or her condition. And the documents they left after his death have served as guidance and testimony to many Christians who arrived centuries later. The Church has needed men and women who deepened and explained at each historical moment the faith inherited from the apostles, in many cases preventing the message from being distorted, faithfully translating it into the philosophical language of each time. This is the great work carried out initially by the parents. Then, after the patristic era, it was a work taken up by the doctors. In these pages the reader will be able to get closer to these important figures of the Church: know what they are (fathers or doctors) and who they are, what they wrote and what the contribution of each of them was in their historical moment.
