The repressive drift of Spanish power against the independence movement has generated many imaginative forms of peaceful resistance. It has also forged some new symbols, sometimes personified in anonymous citizens who respond as best they can to the impotence of seeing their leaders imprisoned or exiled and so many fellow militants threatened. One of the most important is Joan BonaNit and his daily action in the Lledoners prison, which persists without death. This is his story.
