Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common: She wears patterned dresses; him, pleated pants. She is an adventurous spirit; he prefers to stay at home reading. And, despite everything, they are best friends. For most of the year they live apart -she in New York, he in her small town- but every summer, for a decade now, they have taken a week's vacation together. Until two years ago, when everything changed. Now Poppy has everything she's ever dreamed of, but she's stuck in a rut. When someone asks her when she was last happy, she knows, without a doubt, that she went on that last fateful trip with Alex.
