During the fall of 1991, Zooey Orson arrives at Blackfriars, a boys' boarding school where he hopes to start over after the scandal he was involved in at his previous school. There Zooey soon discovers that he is not the only Blackfriars student who keeps a secret, and ends up in the Vicious Circle, an underground gay club that has existed at the boarding school for decades. There he meets Daniel, a very attractive athlete who lives between two worlds; to the extravagant Leo, who is unable to hide who he is; and Steven, a serious, bright and secretive boy. With them, Zooey begins to feel like he is part of a group, but he also has to deal with the bullies who have him in their sights and the constant threat of his secret coming to light. But then the boys stumble upon an ancient book on the occult that belongs to the director, and to protect themselves from a world that seems like it will never accept them, they unleash a supernatural secret so terrifying it threatens to destroy everything.
