Eso no estaba en mi libro de historia de la piratería
Martínez-Pinna, Javier
Did you know that those who fell into the hands of the infamous pirates, such as Morgan or El Olonés, suffered cruel torture with the intention of confessing the location of great treasures that only existed in the imagination of their captors? Or that the Chasse Partie was a document drawn up by the pirate captain specifying the rules of conduct and the way in which the precious loot would be distributed? Did you know that before the battle Blackbeard lit wicks in his hair? Or that Gaius Julius Caesar was captured by pirates and his family had to pay a high price to get him back? And that the Viking pirates tried to conquer the sacred city of Santiago de Compostela? For many years, literature, and now the media, have conveyed an image of piracy that has little or nothing to do with reality. In these pages, Javier Martínez-Pinna has subjected this vision to criticism to show us the atrocities armed by these monsters (Henry Morgan, El Olonés, Roque el Brasiliano or Blackbeard) who made murder, torture and crime, their way of life more feature. He also does not forget to show how pirates, corsairs, buccaneers and filibusters lived; how was their day to day inside those ships that sailed stealthily waiting for the right moment to fall on their defenseless victims. With That was not in my piracy history book, we will travel to the main pirate haunts and bases in the Caribbean, especially Tortuga Island and Port Royal and, of course, we will go in search of one of those fabulous treasures like those of Captain Kidd, the Island of the Oak or the Island of the Coco, so we will have to analyze strange maps that mark, with an "X", the place where we can get a great fortune or, more probably, pay our audacity with the death.
