Equis Equilibrio
XXVI Premio de Novela Vargas Llosa, 2021
Vicenzi, Paola
Sonia is a widowed woman. She has a nineteen year old daughter whom she considers good and obedient. They both lead a quiet life, until one day Martina, her daughter, suffers a psychotic break that condemns them both to complete isolation at home. Equis Equilibrio recounts with simplicity, and at the same time rare intensity, the desperation and exhaustion of a mother who faces the illness of her daughter practically alone. Although the novel is written as if it were a diary, with an almost documentary style, the author manages to endow her creation with a poetic beauty.
