El viejo malestar del Nuevo Mundo
ensayo sobre las emociones tristes en América Latina, sus desafueros y sus pesares
García Villegas, Mauricio
In societies there is a tension between sad and kind emotions. Each country tends towards one side or the other of the scale, and this defines its cultural identity. Sometimes, that balance has tilted too much towards feelings, leading to hate speech and dogmatics. This is the case of Spain and Latin America at some moments in their history. A necessary essay, which explores how history depends on the temperament of societies. Through collective emotions, the author analyzes the role that hatred has played in social affairs and how it is perpetuated in our increasingly polarized societies.
