El viaje de Baboucar
Premio de Literatura de la Unión Europea 2019
Dozzini, Giovanni
Baboucar, Ousman, Yaya and Robert are migrants who have arrived in Italy after having crossed half of Africa and the Mediterranean. They are caught between the hope that their asylum applications will be accepted and the fear that they will be rejected. One weekend, they decide to take a train that will take them to the Adriatic. Their destination is the beach of Falconara Marittima and the journey is marked by encounters, the obsessions of each of them and their relationship with the world around them. There are forty-eight hours of small events: daily events, fines, nights outdoors, visions, the final of the European Football Championship and even fights. Two days in which the four friends walk, always in single file, through the streets of central Italy. Baboucar's journey is a fable that tells us about the desire for a decent life and what happens when you reach the shore and start a new life made of fears, desires, anger, nostalgia and dreams. The result is a work with the particular poetic resonance that only true things have.
