El tren dels nens
Ardone, Viola
Sometimes we have to give up everything, even the love of a mother, to discover our destiny. No novel has ever told it with such stubborn candor. Naples, 1946. Little Amerigo is forced to leave his neighborhood to board a train along with thousands of other children from the south. After the Second World War the Italian Communist Party has organized a series of trips for children to cross the whole peninsula and stay temporarily with families from the north, and thus experience a different life away from the misery that surrounds them. With the astonishment of his seven years and at the same time the intelligent gaze of a street child, Amerigo shows us an Italy coming out of a war as if we were feeling it for the first time, and tells us the story touching of a separation, that pain that is marked by fire and from which one cannot escape because it is the only way to grow.
