El terror de 1824

Pérez Galdós, Benito

The great narrative frieze of the National Episodes served as a vehicle for Benito Pérez Galdós (1843-1920) to recreate in it the entire complex life of the Spanish (wars, politics, daily life, popular reactions) throughout the hectic century XIX. Aftermath of the overwhelming end imposed on the "liberal triennium" by the "One Hundred Thousand Sons of St. Louis", the subject of the previous episode, the "terror" of 1824 contributed to maintaining the Fernandino regime, relentlessly pursuing outbreaks of liberal thought. After the era of the great popular deeds, the action (again located in Madrid as a stage) is dispersed into minor events, of a different heroism: conspiracy and death for an ideal.
