El Pabellón de Oro

Mishima, Yukio

Mizoguchi is an unattractive young man, which has turned him into a lonely, taciturn and self-conscious being: evil and the tragic invade his thoughts. His only fascination is the Kyoto Golden Pavilion, which his father, a Buddhist monk, has spoken of as the embodiment of supreme beauty. After his death, Mizoguchi entered the temple as a novice. She spends her time admiring him: she is the only object of his desire, his obsession. But when sensuality awakens in him, this supreme beauty will get in the way of his love relationships, it will prevent him from having other admiration or affection, becoming an obstacle to real life. His shared friendship between the kind Tsurukawa and the Mephistophelic Kashiwagi, and his disagreements with his superior, Tayama Dosen, will precipitate the events.
