El nombre de los nuestros

El nombre de los nuestros

Silva, Lorenzo

The name of ours is the story of a tragic mistake: that of the colonial policy of Spain in the protectorate of Morocco. The novel is inspired, the author warns, "in the real vicissitudes experienced between June and July 1921 by the Spanish soldiers [...] who defended the advanced positions of Sidi Dris, Talitit and Afrau, in Morocco". Two levy soldiers, Andreu -a Barcelona anarchist- and Amador -an insurance employee from Madrid, attached to the UGT-, and Sergeant Molina, with the collaboration of Haddú, a singular indigenous policeman, star in a story in which they are described Not only the horrors of war, but the horror of man in the face of an irrationally imposed fate by what they call "reason of state". Before them, the harka, the set of Moroccan irregular troops that the clumsy Spanish military command despises from their offices. An invisible enemy in a place where apparently nothing is happening, but is grimly and inexorably preparing for the massacre.
