El mar será...

Antonio Benaiges, el maestro que prometió el mar

Gertrúdix, Sebastián
Bernal, Sergi

At the end of July 1936, just at the beginning of the Civil War, the Catalan teacher Antoni Benaiges disappeared. Two years earlier, he had arrived in the Burgos town of Bañuelos de Bureba ready to apply the Freinet technique in his small rural school, an innovative pedagogical methodology based on student participation and the use of printing. In August 2010, on the occasion of the exhumation of a common grave in the area of La Pedraja (Burgos), a resident of Bañuelos made the figure of the teacher emerge at the foot of the grave saying: "Here is buried the teacher of my town" , initiating, with these words and without knowing it, a whole process of recovery of the history, work and memory of this master. This work recreates in the form of a novel the two years that Benaiges was the Master of that small School and reveals his tragic disappearance.
