El Jarama
Sánchez Ferlosio, Rafael
Crespo López, Mario
(ed.)
The publication of "El Jarama" (1955 Nadal Prize), by Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio, was one of the most important literary events of the 20th century in Spain. Paradigm of objectivist narration and stimulus both for the social novel and for multiple contextual and symbolic interpretations, this chronicle of an unremarkable Sunday in the life of some characters (that "sleepy platoon") whom we only know by their dialogues has deserved brilliant pages from numerous scholars, who consider it one of the most outstanding and complex creations of Spanish literature, as this edition aims to confirm. As far as its author is concerned, and although he disowned a part of his work that we could call "fiction" ("Industries and adventures of Alfanhuí", "El Jarama" and "The testimony of Yarfoz"), it can be affirmed without any There is no doubt that he was a demanding and masterful writer, a unique thinker and a lucid and incorruptible essayist, dedicated to the word in its fullest and perhaps least popular sense, all of which was recognized, among other awards, with the Cervantes Prize.
