Shortly after its publication, El Espía del Inca became, according to specialized critics, the best Peruvian novel of the new century so far. On the one hand, it recreates, with solid historical documentation -but with the licenses of novelistic fiction- the unsuccessful rescue of the Inca. On the other, it gives new life to the characters that populated Tahuantinsuyo in the first moments of the conquest, including the Spanish invaders who arrived in its territory.
