El escaño de Satanás

González Pons, Esteban

In a present similar to ours, a crypt is discovered under the basement of the Congress of Deputies and inside the tomb of a lady without a face, without a name, without a cross. After several years of health and political crisis, the deputies do not suspect that, literally under her feet, a door to hell is about to open. Then, general elections are held and the results represent an earthquake in the national political panorama: two emerging and radical groups will dispute the formation of the Government due to the inability to reach a moderate agreement on the part of the PP and the PSOE. The first of these new forces is called Escarmiento and is headed by Don Baldomero Cuervo, a visionary leader who yearns for the spirit of the Reconquest. The second, the Rainbow coalition, an amalgamation of anti-capitalist and identity movements, is led by the fundamentalist imam Haidar al Isbani. This political conflict will be faced by Marga Saavedra, deputy of Ele-Ele for Seville, honored as a noodle, vaporous as Virginia Wolf, "impostor" in politics and in love with the married spokesman, believer, hunter and bullfighter of the PP in the Chamber, Ramón Bay. Deputy Saavedra will strive to avoid the two possible governments of fanatics, even if to do so she has to fight against her past, against her co-religionists and against the shadow of a dense and smelly Spanish Alana bitch that terrorizes the regulars in the corridors of the Congress. Although for this she has to give up her life. Hasn't the time come to defeat those evil forces that every day debase Politics, thus written with a capital letter? Marga, Ramón and those who still feel that Spain is a project rather than a History will choose to defend their ideals, not to sell them off in exchange for power, and they will not avoid that uncomfortable battle against Satan in which the true exercise of politics consists.
