El efecto Foehn
XL Premio de Narración Corta Felipe Trigo
García Nájera, Susana
Lola is a best-selling writer who moves to London when her daughter Sara, an attractive university student, disappears in the English capital. For Lola, the months go by empty, anguished for not knowing the whereabouts of her daughter and, while she waits, she reflects on life and the futility of her own work. Everything changes when Inspector Amanda Ramsey-Dunn finds a crucial clue that takes the case to a new dimension and the two women begin a search against the clock to find Sara. In their eagerness to also find her own identity and the meaning of their lives, they will gradually reveal complex natures that overlap a plot of absorbing intrigue. The atmosphere that surrounds the story, the rain and the so-called Foehn effect become one more character, which strongly influences the protagonists. The reader will almost feel the need to bundle up or open an umbrella to face this thriller while walking through the most emblematic landscapes of London or listening to one of the legendary songs of the punk movement. Susana García Nájera manages to make us feel the anxieties of each one of the characters as our own, even the most despicable, and beyond the ending, she prolongs the shocking story, perfect in its circular structure, until an end that is also the beginning.
