El desplome de la República

Viñas, Ángel
Hernández Sánchez, Fernando

Moscow, summer of 1939. Before Stalin, two options are outlined: continue his policy of rapprochement with democracies or accept the negotiation proposals made by Hitler. Around the same time, the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Spain submitted a secret report to him about what happened in the last year and a half of the Spanish civil war. Based on this report, which is reproduced here for the first time, and other hitherto unknown evidence, Ángel Viñas and Fernando Hernández Sánchez reconstruct the history of this final stage of the war: the role played by Negrín, Azaña, Besteiro, the communists , socialists and anarcho-syndicalists; the conduct of the French government, Casado's coup... In the light of this review, based on a rigorous use of documents, the whole shebang of myths and misrepresentations that dominate the views that continue to be published about this crucial period of the contemporary Spain.
