El cliente E. Busken
Brouwers, Jeroen
The client E. Busken is an old man locked in a residential care center, the wrong Mr. Busken reveals himself to the established order in the place to which his universe has been reduced. An institution where patients have come to be considered clients and where gender biases are not used; a place where the politically correct is part of the new healthcare and business model. Shielded by his delirium, the protagonist criticizes how some of these centers for the elderly are nothing more than a perverse interlude before death. Halfway between prison and daycare, residents seek refuge somewhere in their memory, sometimes too close to childhood; Mr. Busken knows this because he himself has inaugurated his own descent into hell. Following this stream of consciousness, the author, Jeroen Browers, builds his own swan song in a monologue that confronts us with the degeneration of the protagonist's mind, which forgets words, confuses terms, invents others, goes from outburst of anger to the most intimate confession, from anger to tenderness, without forgetting laughter. Quite a literary spectacle that is worth enjoying.
