El cielo de Lima
Gómez Bárcena, Juan
In 1904, two young Peruvians who were trying to get books signed by their idolized Juan Ramón Jiménez decided to write to him pretending to be a girl named Georgina Hübner. Born from paper as a literary joke, the imaginary young woman became an obsession for the writer and they both starred in an epistolary romance whose tragic end Juan Ramón himself would collect in one of his collections of poems. Based on this historical anecdote, El cielo de Lima follows the steps of these two dilettantes in their construction of the perfect muse, from the attics of bohemia to the brothels or the suburbs where the first workers' revolts break out, until reaching the very heart of the poet.
