Ruby Graham has two favorite hobbies: reading and hanging out with her best friend, Amber. The two girls are polar opposites, but therein lies their friendship. Well, that and Amber being the only other teenager her age in the building. Until the Woods arrive. Ruby's excitement and curiosity about her new neighbors is suddenly dissipated when her eldest son, Kem Woods, ruins one of her treasured books by spilling a bucket of water on it. Enraged, Ruby vows to herself to hate him for all eternity. But it's not so easy to hate Kem, and when love knocks on Ruby's door, so do jealousy, lies, betrayals, and secrets.
