Nore, Aslak
In the autumn of 1940, a ship with Norwegian civilians and German soldiers on board shipwrecked in Bodö, off the Norwegian coast, after hitting a mine. The young Vera Lind and her newborn son survive but her husband, the shipowner Thor Falck, and hundreds of people, civilians and also German soldiers, die. Seventy-five years later, Vera commits suicide. At the funeral, Sasha, the granddaughter in charge of delivering the farewell words, is approached by her grandmother's former editor, who tells her about an unknown manuscript titled The Graveyard of the Sea, which was confiscated by Norwegian security forces in 1970. He also gives her a letter: it is the suicide note in which Vera asks her granddaughter to get to the bottom of what happened in the shipwreck. With the help of a journalist, a former collaborator of the Norwegian secret services, Sasha is determined to discover the truth.
