El ball de les boges
Mas, Victoria
We are in Paris in March 1885. As every year for Middle Lent, the popular dance of mad women is celebrated at the Salpêtrière hospital, directed by the eminent neurologist Professor Charcot. For one night, the cream of Paris enjoys to the rhythm of waltzes and polkas in the company of the inmates, disguised in extravagant outfits. Among the patients are Louise, a young epileptic mistreated by her uncle who has all her illusions in a future marriage to an inmate at the center, and the rebellious and visionary Eugénie, a girl from a good family unceremoniously locked up by her own father. Under the watchful eye of the relentless supervisor Geneviève, they will both fulfill their dreams and do everything possible to escape.
