First, a gang of evil goblins kidnap Simon. Then a gang of elves try to catch Jared. Why is the entire fairy world so eager to get their hands on the Guide to Spiderwick?! On top of that, there's someone running around the school pretending to be Jared. And to make matters worse, Mallory has disappeared without a trace and there is something in the water killing the plants and animals. As if that wasn't enough, it seems that the dwarves have taken over an abandoned mine and the world of fairies is in a state of turmoil with the news that if they team up with a creature that plans to take over the world, they will receive an incredible gift in return: a new queen.
