In Natalie Barney's garden, in Paris at the turn of the century, a group of writers, artists and activists gather to interpret Sappho's verses. They call them Amazons, Viragos, Tribades and Inverts, and they are some of the most fascinating women of the 20th century: Colette, Renée Vivien, Isadora Duncan, Romaine Brooks, Gertrude Stein, Radclyffe Hall, Eva Palmer or Lina Poletti. In "After Sappho", as in Virginia Woolf's "Orlando", reality and fiction merge to draw a bridge that connects the searches, resistances and reinventions of those who, since the 7th century BC.
