Comuneros
Domingo, Alfonso
This is a story of love and war from five hundred years ago. The story of María Pacheco and Juan de Padilla, and of the communities of Castile -in 2021 and 2022 the V centenary will be commemorated-, a love story that survives war and time, at a time of political and social upheaval that Sounds a lot like the times we live in. Year 1526, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, future glory of Spanish letters, visits his sister María Pacheco, who lives in exile in the Porto cathedral. María, the widow of Juan de Padilla, kept the community flame alive in Toledo nine months after the defeat at the battle of Villalar, in 1521, until she had to go into exile in Portugal. The brothers, who have shared that happy childhood in the Alhambra in Granada, play a game of chess through which all the events of the war between the communities that took place years before are recalled.
