Rosa Liksom has received the Finland Prize and the Nordic Prize from the Swedish Academy. Her work has been translated into nineteen languages. Her parents were reindeer herders and in her youth she lived in various European communes. In addition to being a writer, she is a painter and filmmaker. Compartment No. 6, the film adaptation of this novel, was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Festival.
