Comedias, 22
Vega, Lope de
After having obtained the license for Part XXI in May 1635, on June 21 Lope obtained it for the Twenty-two Part Perfect, which he would never see published, as he died on August 25. We do not know if it was the same playwright who chose the texts gathered there; The doubt is imposed in view of the case of Amor, suit and challenge, under whose title Win friends, by Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, was published by mistake. All the pieces that make up the volume were composed between 1615 and 1631, and the absence of tragedies and tragicomedies is striking, as well as the preponderance of palatine comedies, some of them with historical overtones (The first information; The greatest victory; The carbonera; The fortunate farmer; Love, fight and challenge; Nobody knows each other), and urban comedies (Loving without knowing who; They are not all nightingales; Love, serve and wait; Who wants everything). The dozen works are completed with two comedies with a religious theme, one hagiographic (The Life of Saint Peter Nolasco) and the other biblical (The Works of Jacob).
