China, amenaza o esperanza
la realidad de una revolución pragmática
García, Javier (1965- )
China has undergone a colossal transformation in the last thirty years. A gigantic change for which, however, there is hardly any space in the Western media. A State that is close to unseating the US as the leading economic power, which has lifted more than 800 million people out of extreme poverty, has quintupled its renewable energy production in ten years and now prioritizes reducing the social differences created by the market economy. The Western press tries to tarnish these achievements, as the Chinese model of pragmatism risks serving as an example to countries trapped in the impasse of underdevelopment and inequality. It also fuels fear of China's resurgence, intentionally ignoring that the millenary Central Kingdom has never shown expansionist will and has rarely promoted war. Only from a true knowledge of what China is today will we be able to tackle the task of making its unstoppable rise become a fundamental pillar of a new, more just and peaceful world order.
