"All beautiful things touch my heart, and they fuck it until I'm about to die." This is how this middle-class boy feels with a life that was destined to fail. The world did not work well but he lived in it, until Emilie appeared and clung to her, even knowing that it would break his heart. He made some extra money on drugs but he wasn't a bad kid at all. Granted, the university was a failure and his only way out was, why not, enlist in the army. But everything really went wrong when he was assigned to the Iraq war as a "Warrior Nurse", without anyone training him for horror. He coped with it as best he could: getting high on spray and anesthetics, consuming mouse snuff movies, and abusing porn. Nothing that on his return could prevent the post-traumatic stress that would drag him and Emilie into a spiral of heroin and crime.
