Prussia, somewhere along the Oder, on the border with Poland, one winter in the first decades of the 19th century. A man, come from afar with the intention of cultivating the difficult land of the place, unloads from his cart the coffin with the body of his wife, who died during the trip. When he begins to dig his grave in the frozen earth, he surprisingly bumps into another body: a soldier. Male, Prussian, Hussar soldier and frozen: that was the first corpse. When you find a buried body under your soil, in your own soil, you suspect that you are not alone; somehow, whoever finds a corpse fears or imagines that other bodies are waiting motionless, waiting for their turn. With the discovery of the body of the first soldier, history began. That of an inhospitable land, battered by wars, in the heart of Central Europe. And in parallel, that of the tragic destiny of the person who tells us what happened.
