Celama (un recuento)
Díez, Luis Mateo
This book is made up of thirty-eight stories that take place in the imaginary territory of Celama. Most are part of the trilogy made up of the novels The Spirit of the Páramo, The Ruin of the Sky and The Darkening, and others are unpublished. All of them are now covered with a new brilliance as they appear rearranged by the affinity of what they tell. Celama is a metaphor, as beautiful as it is complex, of the disappearance of rural cultures and leads to the depths and mystery of the human heart. The stories offer us a computation of passionate, melancholic, exuberant, daily or secret lives: a universal reflection of the adverse conditions of life, to which the lucidity that humor adds is not lacking. Celama's stories have been revised (recounted) by the author for this edition. As Ángeles Encinar affirms in the final study, we are, in short, before a polyphonic narrative cycle, which maintains a powerful symbolic unity.
