Cantabria

Cantabria

García Martín, Jesús

On this tour, we are going to paint the Cantabrian scenery, that is, La Montaña, with short brushstrokes, because this is how these northern natives call their lands, peaks and rolling meadows. A scene dotted with small villages where there are no shortage of quesadas, bocartes or wooded spots; the rivers and streams, the omnipresent and peaceful cows that encompass everything. Cantabria is pure accident, a continuous rise and fall only appeased by some wide beaches and marshes. The landscape contrasts are pronounced: the great scenic beauty of the Picos de Europa and the Liébana is complemented by the placidity of the pasiegos landscapes. The valleys of Cabuérniga, the hidden Cantabria, has its counterweight in the most open of the coast with its beaches, its fishing villages and Santander, one of the most pleasant cities in our country thanks above all to its restaurants, its seafront and the La Magdalena complex. Cantabria has numerous caves that are a World Heritage Site for their prehistoric art or for their geological importance (El Soplao), or for their natural beauty such as those of Ramales and the Asón area... and there are monuments for everything: from collegiate churches to the cave churches, from Santillana del Mar, considered the most beautiful town in Spain, to the modernism of Comillas.
