San Sebastián, 1813. José Bonaparte has lost the war and the French army withdraws from the Peninsula, encouraged by the allied troops under the command of General Wellington. After five years of occupation, the people of San Sebastian eagerly await the arrival of the liberators, but wonder what will happen if the French military offer resistance. To stay or to leave, that is the question. The chocolatier Maritxu Altuna, widow and mother of a daughter, decides, like others, to stay and defend her business. None of them imagines that their supposed saviors will set fire to the city, although beforehand, during the long night of August 31, they will dedicate themselves to killing, robbing and subjecting its inhabitants to all kinds of harassment, especially women.
