Barrio de Maravillas

At first we see a girl sitting on a chair, pulling threads from a linen cloth. The afternoon light illuminates her face focused on the work; It is as if Isabel had to prove every time that she deserves a place in that apartment where her friend Elena lives, the little girl who knows everything and organizes everything to her liking because the whole house and the family are her feet. Later, when night falls, Isabel will go up to the attic where she lives with her mother. The future asks for a step while in the mansion the movement of neighbors continues and the street opens with new proposals. The entire neighborhood becomes one more character in this splendid altarpiece of Madrid at the beginning of the 20th century, a place and a moment that Rosa Chacel illuminates with her talent for recreating childhood from pure emotions.
