Wales flees with her daughter to the only place where they will not be able to find her. He only wants to buy her time, to move forward among the ruins of a broken world and the seed of something that is to come, something indefinable and terrifying. That trip, which is actually a return, will lead her to confront her mother after decades without speaking, to old lost friendships, and to a town that hates and fears her in equal measure. Pursued by professional assassins, cultists, armed thugs and a secret agency in charge of protecting the planet from powerful alien entities, she only wants it all to end.
