Ferrari, Jérôme

A young photographer dies suddenly in an accident on a road in Calvi, Corsica. The funeral will be officiated by her uncle and godfather, who despite having promised to concentrate fully on the liturgy, will not be able to prevent images of his niece from returning to his mind: the girl fascinated by photography, the adolescent seduced by a nationalist militant, the prestigious wedding photographer or the journalist for a local newspaper who one day left everything to travel to Yugoslavia during the war. In this acclaimed work, Ferrari explores the abyss that exists between reality and the image that is shown to us of it, and at the same time manages to masterfully combine the vivid portrait of a free woman with the chronicle of some of the political events that convulsed Corsica at the end of the 20th century. A novel full of humanity, which takes us from the failure of our own aspirations and desires to the ambiguous links that are established between the image, photography, reality and death.
