| The emergence of memory and the incorporation of new analytical categories for studying violence have gone a long way to revitalising research on the Spanish Civil War and the Franco regime. However, the obsession with the presentism inherent to the post-truth age poses new unsettling challenges for historians, insofar as they have relinquished their role as custodians of the interpretation of the past. In this book, an analysis is performed on the different times of memory that have elapsed in Spain from 1936 down to the present day, and on the problems posed by the use of concepts linked to the standardisation of the transitional account of the violence unleashed in the areas under Nationalist and Republican control. Likewise, versus the intention of imposing a sole one-way public narrative of the past, it vindicates a specific space for its historical interpretation, less dependent on the peremptory and fickle demands of the present, as well as the need to construct a new account of Spain’s traumatic past that does not imply its dissipation in different forms of cultural memory. La emergencia de la memoria y la incorporación de nuevas categorías analíticas para el estudio de la violencia han contribuido en gran medida a revitalizar la investigación sobre la Guerra Civil española y el franquismo. Sin embargo, la obsesión por el presentismo inherente a la era de la posverdad plantea nuevos e inquietantes retos a los historiadores, en la medida en que han renunciado a su papel de custodios de la interpretación del pasado. En este libro se analizan los diferentes tiempos de la memoria transcurridos en España desde 1936 hasta la actualidad, y los problemas que plantea el uso de conceptos vinculados a la normalización del relato transicional de la violencia desatada en las zonas bajo control nacionalista y republicano. Asimismo, frente a la intención de imponer un único relato público unidireccional del pasado, reivindica un espacio específico para su interpretación histórica, menos dependiente de las perentorias y volubles exigencias del presente, así como la necesidad de construir un nuevo relato del pasado traumático de España que no implique su disipación en distintas formas de memoria cultural. |
