| This book aims to offer the reader a series of keys to understand why agrarian archaeology has become one of the most dynamic, experimental, and innovative sectors of the discipline in southern Europe, providing an overview of the driving theories, methodologies and main topics that have been addressed to date. In this way, the text is presented as an introduction for students, a critical reading guide for other scholars, and an informative instrument aimed at a wide audience. Most of the results of agrarian archaeology are to be found in highly specialized journals and venues that are not always easily accessible, and thus the volume presents the works, tools, and conceptual frameworks that have been developed by some of the main research groups active in the south of Western Europe to study rural societies throughout history, considering the materiality of agricultural activities. Este libro pretende ofrecer al lector una serie de claves para entender por qué la arqueología agraria se ha convertido en uno de los sectores más dinámicos, experimentales e innovadores de la disciplina en el sur de Europa, proporcionando una visión general de las teorías impulsoras, las metodologías y los principales temas que se han abordado hasta la fecha. De este modo, el texto se presenta como una introducción para estudiantes, una guía de lectura crítica para otros estudiosos y un instrumento divulgativo dirigido a un público amplio. La mayoría de los resultados de la arqueología agraria se encuentran en revistas y lugares muy especializados que no siempre son de fácil acceso, por lo que el volumen presenta los trabajos, herramientas y marcos conceptuales que han desarrollado algunos de los principales grupos de investigación activos en el sur de Europa occidental para estudiar las sociedades rurales a lo largo de la historia, teniendo en cuenta la materialidad de las actividades agrarias. |
